Dr Bruce Perry is one of my favourite gurus on early trauma in children.  Bruce D. Perry, M.D., Ph.D., is an internationally-recognised authority on children in crisis. Dr. Perry is the Provincial Medical Director in Children’s Mental Health for the Alberta Mental Health Board. In addition, he is the Senior Fellow of the ChildTrauma Academy a Houston-based organisation dedicated to research and education on child maltreatment. Dr. Perry has been consulted on many high-profile incidents involving traumatised children, including the Columbine, Colorado school shootings, the Oklahoma City bombing, and the Branch Davidian siege.

His book ‘The Boy who was Raised as a Dog’ is a brilliant book that looks at brain development and gives lots of theory as well as great practical understanding of child trauma and development. Much of his research has been used to understand attachment and trauma in children, of which we use some on our training courses with schools.

My blog today is to raise the profile of Dr Bruce Perrys work and specifically to draw your attention to the first of a few short videos of Dr Perry talking about education in children who’ve experienced early trauma – take the time to have a look and invest in his very accessible work through his resources available on amazon or through his website www.childtrauma.org.
